Hugo van Poelgeest Award 2020
4 years agoThe Hugo van Poelgeest award for animal-free innovations is awarded to Berend van Meer (LUMC) for his study on human heart models. The audience award goes to Anke Tukker (UU) for her work on in vitro neuronal networks.
The 'Bouwstenen voor Dierenwelzijn' Foundation awards the Hugo van de Poelgeest award once every four years to researchers who conduct excellent research in the life sciences without using animals.
The winner of the prize is Berend van Meer (LUMC), who gives his vision of the future with his research into human heart models. The audience award goes to Anke Tukker (IRAS/UU). She conducts research on the effect of substances on human nerve cells. The third nominee, Carlo Paggi (University of Twente), makes joints-on-a-chip for his research and often collaborates with colleagues from Utrecht that conduct research on human joints.
The award ceremony took place on October 2nd, 2020. Due to measures against the corona virus, the physical award ceremony has been canceled.
