Mini-symposium Culture of Care 5 february

We would like to invite you to a mini-symposium on Culture of Care on 5 February 2026.

During the mini-symposium, we will present the Culture of Care Award 2026. This will be preceded by two presentations.

Veterinarian and coach Chantal Duijn (Bureau Raak) demonstrates how proper animal care begins with proper self-care. She will discuss the dilemmas associated with working with (laboratory) animals, the emotional strain of difficult choices, and the balance between commitment and self-protection. In her presentation, Chantal will show how you can deal with this in a different way to prevent compassion fatigue. She will also share concrete tools to help you continue to thrive in your work.

Research assistant and veterinarian Olivier Weber will then talk about the ‘Culture of Care barometer’ he has developed and why it is relevant for everyone who works with laboratory animals at Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht. The questionnaire provides insight into how employees experience the Culture of Care within the institutions, what differences there are between groups, and how this can change over time. Shortly after the symposium, the questionnaire will be rolled out within UU and UMC Utrecht.

After the award ceremony, we will conclude the mini-symposium with a (non-alcoholic) drinks reception.

The symposium will take place from 3 p.m. (doors open at 2.45 p.m.) to 5 p.m. at Café Madame Jeannette (Yalelaan 34). You will receive a Lifelong Learning certificate for this meeting.

Register quickly using the registration form. We look forward to seeing you on 5 February!
