Revision of breeding policy
2 hours agoOver the past year, with the help of the breeding coordinators, work has been done to update the procurement and breeding policy.
The most important changes are the inclusion of the legal conditions concerning the breeding of genetically modified animals and the monitoring of new lines. Furthermore, the responsibilities surrounding the outsourcing of breeding to external parties and the empowerment of the breeding coordinator have been tightened. In order to provide guidance on the implementation of the procurement and breeding policy for mice, rats, and zebrafish, it was decided to include the practical details in a NEW implementation guide or the breeding of laboratory animals. This includes principles and guidelines relating to breeding that were previously included in the breeding protocol. New additions include the recording of breeding information, the prevention of genetic drift, and the monitoring of animals from a breeding program with an unknown phenotype. Do you breed certain lines? Use the implementation guide and the revised breeding protocol as a reference for setting up and implementing breeding.
