Better animal testing with the Experimental Design course

How do you ensure that your animal experiments provide the information for which they are intended? And how do you ensure that you do not use laboratory animals unnecessarily? How can you prevent bias? Take the course ‘My Animal Research: Experimental Design’ and develop your research skills based on your own research.

During the learning track, you will develop your skills in the design of animal experiments based on your own research question, research design and work protocol. During the course much attention is paid to experimental risks (bias) and their prevention. You will receive online modules, one-on-one sessions, group meetings, a practice assessment, and final assessment. An e-moderator will guide you during the learning process. The course is developed for starting PhD students, but is open to all researchers. The course is in English.

Recommended

The course is highly recommended and supported by the animal experiments license holders of the Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht, by the Life Sciences Deans, and by the Animal Welfare Body Utrecht. They see participation in this in-depth course as a must for conducting animal experiments in research. The main part of the costs is therefore reimbursed by the institutions, so that the participant costs are limited.

Registration and additional information

The course starts on 28 September 2021. The costs for participation are € 500. Watch the video.

The course offers the chance to improve the quality of your research design. There is also the advantage that the acquired level of knowledge can directly be applied to your own research and work protocol and that it can speed up the assessment process of your work protocol

I recommend the course. It helps one gain insight in the reasons for choosing an animal model and it makes one aware of how unreliable scientific results can be when some factors are not taken into account.

The course stimulated me to proactively work on my work protocols, and it put me in direct contact with the people responsible of approving said protocols.
