Annual registration

The Animal Welfare Body conducts annual interviews with laboratory animal coordinators to check data and discuss plans. Some data is shared with the 3Rs Centre and the NVWA.

In the first quarter of each calendar year, the Animal Welfare Body holds a meeting with all laboratory animal coordinators. During this meeting, the data of the animal experiments carried out and of the laboratory animals present are checked. In addition, the list of authorized employees is updated and the future plans of the department with regard to animal testing and 3R methods are discussed. Information about the latter is shared with 3Rs Centre.

The correct and timely completion of the welfare evaluation by the researcher contributes to the timely and complete submission of the annual registration to the NVWA. The data of all institutions in the Netherlands are published annually by the NVWA in the annual report Zo doende.

The annual figures are processed in the European database ALURES. This provides a complete overview of the use of animals in science in Europe.
